Bantay Kita - Project Open Mining Governance (OMG): Increasing access, understanding, and use of mining contracts data
Bantay Kita's Project OMG (Open Mining Governance) aims to increase access, understanding, and use of mining contracts data. Since the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and the Open Government Partnership (OGP), a lot of contracts and data have been made available to the public in the Philippines. Capacity among civil society organisations and communities, however, remain a challenge in translating transparency to accountability.
Project OMG will partner with grassroots/people's organisations, legal action groups, and academic institutions based in the provinces of Cebu and Palawan to conduct trainings and analyses of available relevant data. This is in the hope that through Project OMG communities be better informed and be able to use the data for the management of their natural resources.
